Extruder gun care: why water/ oil separators matter

Always use a water/ oil separator

Regardless of the kit, a water/ oil separator should always be used with any pneumatic tooling.

This is standard practice and recommended regardless of the industry you are involved in or whatever is connected into the air circuit.

Moisture in the compressed air will create rust etc. as it passes through tooling or other equipment during use. This can lead to seizing.

Install the water separator at the point the tool (or piece) of equipment connects into the air system in a workshop.

If a water separator  isn’t used or a tool becomes seized it’s usually an easy job to just open up the rear compartment and clean the vane and oil again to get going.

Some other ways to prolong the life of your extruder

By following these steps you will minimise damage to your extruder and prolong the overall efficiency of your product and maximise production.

  1. Put a few drops of oil in every air tool before use.
  2. Always use a water suppressor.
  3. With all air tools put a few drops of air tool oil into the tool at the start and end of each day.
  4. Drain after every use.
